Manage the estimating process and drive best practices enabling us to respond faster and more accurately to business opportunities as you propel yourself for career advancement at a fast-growing construction inspection and testing firm.
In your role as an Estimator you'll develop estimates for a variety of construction projects, including commercial, private, education, healthcare, state and federal accounts ranging from $10K to $1M. You'll collaborate extensively with prospective clients as you travel to job sites (within the Southern California area) as well as with internal stakeholders, including Sales/Marketing department, to get accurate bidding information. To be a good fit for this opportunity you must demonstrate solid experience with the estimating process within a construction/inspection or testing environment. We're looking for a team-oriented professional with excellent people skills who can thrive in a dynamic, high velocity environment.
What Else You'll Bring to the Table
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or related combination of education & experience.
- 5-10 years of experience with all aspects of the estimating process including quantity takeoffs, schematic, conceptual, purchasing, accounting, and project management.
- Ability to read and understand specifications and drawings.
- Ability to make accurate judgments and calculations.
- Working knowledge of construction costs and principles.
- Working knowledge of different construction inspection trades.
- Solid drafting and computer skills in a Microsoft Office environment.
- The ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with others, including the ability to provide direction to others.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely.

You will report to the Vice President of Business Operations as you join the Marketing department.
You'll spend about 90% of your time at the office focusing on the preparation, interpretation and presentation of estimates and budgets; and the remaining 10% in the field with project related activities. Your specific responsibilities will be to:
- Review project plans, requirements and specifications.
- Prepare accurate estimate of required inspection hours, field and laboratory testing based on the project documents and applicable codes.
- Participate in subcontract solicitations and job walks as appropriate.
- Determine labor and construction testing costs.
- Meet and maintain proposal and bid schedules.
- Compare competitive trade bids.
- Review preliminary quotes and pre-bid estimates.
- Secure all bid documents (bid forms and quote letters).
- Assist project managers with providing revised estimates and change order processing during the construction phase of the projects.
